Collares Rojos

Collares Rojos is a non-profit organization created by a group of friends in September 2010. We are located in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic. With the help and donations from a lot of people and our partners, we were able to build a shelter for the many animals that we rescue from the streets or from the bad conditions they live in their "owner's" houses.

When the pets arrive at Collares Rojos, after being examined by our local veterinary VETHELP BAYAHIBE, they receive all the health care they need and then, they go through a necessary cohabitation process because, after all, they were alone on the streets, they didn't have any other animal friends, and now they need to build trust in humans.

Initially our mission was to control the population of the street dogs and cats in Bayahibe, a little town in the Dominican Republic. As people noticed our work, we started to receive calls for help from many other places in the country. Now, we organize and participate in several spay and neuter campaigns throughout the island.

Our mission is to give a house and to take care of rescued and unwanted companion animals, to shelter them until they find their permanent homes, to spay and neuter street animals and to educate the community about the importance of spay and neuter campaigns, and to promote thoughtful and healthy relationships between pet owners and their animals.
